Tess was playing at a friend's house on their climbing dome when she slipped and bammed her mouth into the bar. She chipped her front (permanent!) tooth. She was pretty upset and we all thought that there was a little sliver of the broken-off tooth jammed up in between her 2 front teeth. It's hard to tell in this picture but it did look that. Fortunately that wasn't the case, but unfortunately what we were seeing was that there was a little section off the front of the tooth that was shaved off, clear up under her gums. So the corner was completely gone and the center section had a slice gone from up the middle (hard to explain...)
Of course this happened on a Saturday night when dentists are closed but we were able to get in to the dentist on Monday morning. They x-rayed it and decided they could probably fix it with a filling. Tess kind of liked all the attention and she liked showing her friends her crazy tooth. We started calling her "Chip" and she seemed to like that too.
Here she is afterward--it looks so great! I'm so grateful for skilled dentists who can repair teeth so well! They said that because it's right in the front, she'll need to be careful about chomping into any hard things (apples, carrots, etc.) because the filling could easily break out. She will eventually need a crown but they don't do those on children, so she'll probably get it when she's 18 or so.

Matthew and Josh have both chipped their front teeth. Josh's was worse, though. After getting it fixed about 4 years ago we have had no problem with it. It is amazing what dentists can do repair work wise!
