Time for our random tidbits of things that happened in June...
Where we go kayaking, there are huge frogs all along the banks of the river. You can hear them croak and ribbit like crazy as you paddle along. One day Bryan & Miles went kayaking/fishing. Well, Miles dropped in his hook and accidentally caught a big frog! Oops!
When we went camping at Simpson Springs, Miles caught a lizard, brought him home, and named him Skunk. Miles was pretty diligent about giving him bugs to eat and water, grass, and dirt for a habitat, but unfortunately Skunk just wasn't thriving here in Hooper. We decided he wanted to return to the wild. So here is Miles with one last picture of Skunk before letting him go. (I sure hope our Sunny cat didn't find Skunk in our yard later that night, or else Skunk is a goner...we won't mention that part to Miles.)
Governor Herbert came up to Roy High School to celebrate and congratulate the administration & students on their high achievement at graduation. Roy High had a really low rate of graduation just a few years ago, but with a generous donation from a local businessman and a matching grant from the legislature, Roy High devised a plan which brought their graduation rate up to about 97%. Because our school, Freedom Elementary, is in the Roy High "cone," our Principal was invited and she asked me to come along to represent PTA. It was pretty neat to see him speak.
Here's Governor Herbert with our amazing principal, Diane Rockwood (on the right) and our awesome all-day Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. O'Donnell, along with 2 students of the all-day kindergarten. The all-day kindergarten was one of the uses of the grant money, to help some of the most at-risk kids get caught up before 1st grade.
Here are Miles and Bree enjoying Bonzai Falls. We had it set up at our Fathers Day party with the Terry side. The kids always have fun with the waterslide!
I sat down with the kids at the beginning of summer and we made a list of all the fun things we wanted to do this summer. They had great ideas! Most things are pretty simple, like "get a snow cone" and "sleep in the backyard," but some take advance planning, like "camping/water-skiing" and "go to the drive-in." We have had so much fun crossing things off our list! One on the list was "see a professional baseball game" so we went to see the Ogden Raptors play. (I know, not super "professional" or Major League by a long shot, but still really fun!)
...unfortunately Liz wasn't able to join us (she lives in St. George), but our other close friend, Kelley Roberts Grandy, was the one in town from Arkansas and we decided to re-create the old photo with her in Liz's spot.
It was bittersweet to take pictures by the high school since the old high school was demolished and rebuilt in 2002. I'd say we haven't aged a day!
And, finally, this last picture just cracks me up! I think I've mentioned before that Bree loves to draw pictures on her face. She uses washable markers so I don't care. She comes out of the bathroom as some animal or another and she always looks cute. Well, the other day she came bee-bopping into my room, and I--seeing the whiskers--said, "Oh my! What a cute kitty you are!" She got very angry with me and said, "MOM! I'm not a cat, I'm a dog!...See!" and then she lifted up her head and showed me her neck...
...if you can't read it, it says: DOG NOT A CAT. And the best part is, it is a reverse image because she wrote it while looking in the mirror! Oh my heart, that girl is awesome! I laughed and laughed. What a smart girl!
